Summer Happenings

WORDS IN MOTION SUMMER CAMP

At our camp, we are dedicated to providing a unique and enriching experience that combines the transformative power of speech therapy and occupational therapy in a dynamic and engaging environment. This two hour program is designed for children of all abilities, our camp offers a range of activities and interventions tailored to meet each child’s individual needs and goals. Our camp integrates speech therapy and occupational therapy seamlessly, providing children with a holistic approach to addressing their communication, sensory, motor, and social-emotional needs. Our experienced therapists work collaboratively to develop personalized treatment plans that target each child’s specific challenges and strengths.

To ensure personalized attention and meaningful interactions, we keep our camp groups small. This allows our therapists to focus on each child’s unique needs, provide individualized support, and foster a sense of community and belonging among campers. Our camp is not just about therapy – it’s also about building confidence, independence, and social skills. Through hands-on activities and collaborative projects, children have the opportunity to practice and strengthen their communication, motor, and sensory skills in a supportive and encouraging environment.

Orton Gillingham Reading Retreat

As we embark upon the journey of exploring summer programs for speech therapy, it’s essential to delve into methodologies that are not only effective but also engaging and enriching for our young learners. The Orton-Gillingham approach emphasizes explicit and systematic phonics instruction, starting with the most basic phonological concepts and gradually building upon them. This structured approach ensures that children develop a solid foundation in phonemic awareness, phonics, and decoding skills.

This program will incorporate a variety of multisensory activities to engage children in learning; including use of sand trays for letter formation, tracing letters and words in tactile materials, auditory drills using rhymes and songs, and kinesthetic activities like air writing or using manipulatives to build words. Beyond decoding, the Orton-Gillingham approach also addresses other language skills such as comprehension, vocabulary, and fluency. Summer programs can incorporate activities that promote these skills, such as reading comprehension exercises, vocabulary games, and fluency-building activities like repeated reading.
By incorporating the Orton-Gillingham approach into summer programs for speech therapy, we not only provide children with the tools they need to become proficient readers but also instill in them a love for learning. Through its multisensory modality and individualized instruction, this approach empowers children to overcome their reading difficulties and unlock their full potential

Food Explorers Program

Are mealtimes with your child often a battleground? Do you find yourself struggling to get them to try new foods or eat a balanced diet? If so, our summer Speech Therapy Food Explorers Program is here to help!

Designed specifically for picky eaters, our program combines the expertise of speech therapists with the excitement of culinary exploration to turn mealtime challenges into opportunities for growth, discovery, and fun.

Program Highlights:

Our program is led by a licensed Speech Therapist who specialize in pediatric feeding disorders and picky eating. They understand the underlying issues that can contribute to picky eating behaviors and are equipped with strategies to address them effectively. We believe in taking a gradual and supportive approach to expanding your child’s food preferences. Through sensory exploration, exposure therapy, and positive reinforcement, we help children feel comfortable and confident trying new foods at their own pace.

Our program incorporates hands-on cooking activities that engage children in the food preparation process. From mixing and measuring to chopping and tasting, children have the opportunity to explore new foods in a playful and non-threatening environment. Speech therapy techniques are seamlessly integrated into our activities to support language development and communication skills. Children learn vocabulary related to food, practice descriptive language, and engage in conversation about their culinary experiences.

Don’t let picky eating hold your child back from enjoying a diverse and nutritious diet. Join us at the Speech Therapy Food Explorers Program and watch your child blossom into a confident and adventurous eater!
